Georgia-based Waffle House Restaurants says it will most likely sell its 1 billionth waffle before Saturday.
The 24-hour chain has been counting waffles since they opened on Labor Day 1955 by two neighbors in Avondale Estates, Tom Forkener and Joe Rogers, Sr.
“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our 60 th anniversary than to be serving our 1 billionth waffle,” Walt Ehmer, Waffle House’s chief executive officer, said in a prepared statement. “That’s the great thing about this,” adds Ehmer, “In the beginning, we thought we would open about ten locations and then go fishing.”
Now, there are over 1,800 Waffle Houses in 25 different states. The Waffle House goal has always been to serve quality food at a reasonable price.
Waffle House says it will announce on Twitter and Instagram who orders the 1 billionth waffle.
