One billboard in south Georgia is causing quite the stir.
The “Welcome to Brunswick!” billboard is set to be taken down by October 1 after members of the community complained due to the fact that Brunswick mayor Cornell Harvey’s name appears on the sign.
“Jesus is Lord! Welcome to Brunswick! Mayor Cornell Harvey and City Council,” the sign reads.
The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported first that while no public funds were used to fund any portion of the sign, the mayor offered permission to the local business owner who paid for the billboard to use his name on the sign.
Victoria Hightower, the business owner, told the AJC that the city manager called her and cited separation of church and state in asking her to have the billboard taken down.
No word on how long the sign has been up.
