This morning I spent 20 minutes trying to think of something more beautiful than Kelly Johnson‘s swing. I couldn’t think of anything. Kelly Johnson’s swing is more beautiful than the sunset over the Tetons. That’s a fact. It’s on the internet.
You may ask yourself – Why did the Braves bring back Kelly Johnson? Let me take stab at it. I’m going to guess it’s because he’s good at playing baseball and he’s cheap. The real question you need to ask yourself is – Why did the Braves trade Kelly Johnson to the New York Metropolitans last year? At the time of letting KJ go last year, the Braves were only 5 games out of first place and still in contention. The wheels didn’t fall off when Grilli got hurt. They didn’t fall off when Alex Wood left. The Atlanta Braves forgot how to play baseball when Kelly Johnson was traded.
Before being traded against his will last year, Kelly Johnson hit .275/.321/.451 and hit 9 HRs, had 111 wRC+, and picked up 0.3 fWAR for the Braves. Additionally, thanks to his versatility, the Braves were able to use him in a variety of positions in both the infield and the outfield. So, as you can imagine, he’ll be an asset for team trying to rebuild.
Furthermore, my brother, co-host of award winning internet radio show, The Warning Track, agreed to return to the show only if the Atlanta Braves brought back Kelly Johnson. Today is a great day for Braves Country.
